Scott and Hyden win Second title in Seaside Heights; Kropp and Pavlik capture Women's Open

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N. J. (June 26, 2011) --- Sean Scott and John Hyden continued their undefeated season on the Corona Light Wide Open tour of beach volleyball festivals, picking up their second consecutive title with a 21-17, 21-10 win over Matt Prosser and John Mayer in the Men’s Open division final of the Corona Light tournament Sunday in Seaside Heights.

The tournament’s top seeds, Scott, from Honolulu, Hawaii, and Hyden, of San Diego, Calif., won the Corona Light Wide Open title earlier this month at Siesta Key, Fla. With Sunday’s win, they picked up $7,500. Prosser, from Long Beach, Calif., and Mayer, of Culver City, Calif., entered the championship match undefeated on the weekend and had picked up wins over some of the top teams in the sport, including Aaron Wachtfogel and Bill Strickland.

The California team of Jenny Kropp and Whitney Pavlik went undefeated on the weekend, capturing the Women’s Open division with a 21-18, 22-24, 15-6 win over Kristin Batt, from Venice, Fla., and Brooke Sweat, of Estero, Fla. Kropp, from Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Pavlik, of Laguna Beach, Calif., won $7,500 and earned an automatic berth into September’s US Open of Beach Volleyball.

Saturday champions were crowned in a number of amateur divisions, including Men's AA winners Pete Zisa, from West Orange, N. J., and his partner Milson Peixoto, of Kearny, N. J. The Men's A division was won by Kevin Froehlich, of Ridgewood, N. J., and Danny Vaccariello, of Sayerville, N. J., while Charlie DeCrescenzo, from New York, N. Y., and David Loss, also from New York, captured the Men's B division title.
The Women's AA division crown was won by Christine Schlegelmilch, from Reston, Va., and Tristy Bittikofer, from Raleigh, N. C. The New Jersey team of Lisa Hoang, from Metuchen, N. J., and Evelina Trzeciak, of Monroe, N. J., won the Women's A title and Margaret Buttery, from Ridgewood, N. J., and Devin Plote, of New Brunswick, N. J., took top honors in the Women's B division.

Three divisions of coed play were held on Sunday with Lisa Ekmekjian, of Montvale, N. J., and Dan Sempkowski, of East Brunswick, N. J. taking the title in the Coed Open division. The winners of the Coed A division were Lisa Hoang, from Metuchen, N. J., and Brian Gadaleta, from Neptune, N. J., while Leanne Hershkowitz, of West Caldwell, N. J., and Eric Zan, from Cherry Hill, N.J., took top honors in the Coed B division.

The Corona Light Wide Open tour now moves to North Avenue Beach in the heart of Chicago with two days of beach volleyball action on July 30 and 31 before closing out the 2011 nationwide tour in August in Hermosa Beach, Calif.
